The day this arrived hubby and I happened to be heading out to some fence mending with a few of our neighbors. We live on a large ranch in a rural area and one of the barbed-wire fences had recently been cut by trespassers driving their ATVs through a dry wash on our property. We used this come-a-long (puller) to tighten the barbed wire as we hung it. It worked out great! This was far more powerful than we needed, but it certainly made for easy work.

Plenty of power to get things moved
This is much better than my last come along (H.F.) All of the components are heavy duty (no flimsy rivets or light duty hardware). The load hook end has a swaged loop that is solidly and correctly crimped. Both the load and anchor hooks are good quality 5/16″ hooks. Both pawls (drive and stop pawls) consistently lock into the main ratchet drive when in operation. The pawls and ratchet drive are laminated steel. I like that it doesn’t feel like the winch is over strained on bigger pulls and it doesn’t take a lot of effort to operate.

Super strong cable puller, solidly built. Good strong cable, solid pulleys, good hooks. So far the only issue I have had was with the racheting mechanism. If functions but needed to be oiled as the rachet teeth were not meshing with the cog teeth and it would slip. a little bit of spray silicone fixed that issue but it really freaked me out the first time when it popped loose under load. Maybe just a random QC issue, but should have been tested before shipped.

Works but needs lube
I had the same problem that BH reported. The ratchet binds when the cable is under load and does not engage. On first use, I had to manually reach underneath and push the ratchet into the teeth with a finger on every pull once it got tight – very dangerous. I’ll lube it and see if that fixes it, otherwise it goes back. It should have been greased at the factory.

Solid unit. These are always a little tricky to open and get working, but this did OK straight out of the package. Can in good condition. Sometimes heavier metal items do not do well in transport, but this came in perfect condition. Heavy duty and great for around the house or keep in the car. Comes with three hooks, and integrated pulley. The pulley is a game changer and provides not only leverage but positioning flexibility for odd angle approaches or side pulling. This is a nice unit. I am replacing a 25 year old one I had that the cable finally broke, and this is actually as good of quality as my old one. That is not so true these days with cheap replacements. Works OK, but don't believe the Extra Lubrication hype
This is sold and labeled as the “Extra Lubrication” model, which seems to be meaningless marketing hype. The mechanisms definitely felt rough and gritty like it needs to be lubricated. The come-along works fine and is heavy duty, just don’t think you are going to get any value out of the “extra lubrication”.
It also comes in a thin cardboard box with no padding, so mine had some nicks and dings from shipping. Not a big deal since it will likely get beat up worse in use, but just be aware.

Really wished I had this when I was pulling out a large tree stump a few months ago. Had to use a car jack and farmer jack to get that out. This is heavy duty winch with a pulley. Really heavy.
I couldn’t figure out how to release the cable. Kept messing with the tab with the red rubber. Didn’t realize there was a one page instruction buried at the bottom of the box. Glad I didn’t toss away the box immediately. It requires you to disengage two latches to release the cable for extra safety.

Decent puller, load rating might be optimistic
This puller is fine – it appears to be pretty much the same as my 4 ton puller for which I paid a slightly lower price at the local hardware store. Ignore the description’s mention of it being lubricated – it’s bone dry. Oil the moving bits and it’ll work better. I do not trust the 11,000 lb rating as a working load limit, I have broken seemingly identical 1/4” cables on my 4 ton puller at less than 8000 lb pull on a double line (using the additional pulley to double the effective pull). 1/4” wire rope has a typical breaking strength somewhere between 6000-7000 lbs so the maximum breaking strength under perfect theoretical conditions is 7 tons when using the second pulley, or 3.5 tons as a single line pull. That’s breaking strength – NOT the same as safe working load, and it doesn’t account for any de-rating for the tight bend through the hook with no thimble. Always be careful using one of these, they can and sometimes do break.
I should add that I have no idea what the difference between “Upgraded version 1” and “Upgraded version 2” is, besides price. I think I have version 2 for this review but I’m not sure.

Heavy Duty - robust construction
This come-along style winch is a much heavy version than ones I have used in the past.
The operation is the same as is typical of such winches. It also comes with well written instructions.
I have used the winch to pull a cedar tree back to level that has fallen somewhat during prior storms. The winch did an excellent job and was left in place for two weeks (to give the tree a chance to settle in to its new position).
The winch as been out in rain and still shows zero signs of surface rust forming due to the coating on the metal.

This is a durable, heavy duty winch at a fair price. I recommend this product.

Trees are 18-25″ diameter and 60-80′ tall, a few have maybe a 20 degree lean and it’s done well. Big jobs made small
I grabbed one of these as an insurance policy should my 7 ton electric winch would ever fail, or needed a little lateral help. I ended up needing this a lot more than I knew. These are basically insurance policies – a handheld heavy lifting winch for finessing things into place – in my case, to center up a car on my trailer when it didn’t line up just right. These are super simple to use, and relatively safe when used in the confines of their design. The urethane coated handle is a welcome feature to keep your hands for getting tore up. These look small, but pull incredibly well (I’ve also pulled up diesel engines on engines stands up trailers as well). They stow away in not a lot of space, and seems to be built pretty stout so it should last quite a while. I think for function, use, and affordability – if you own a truck, or do any towing or mechanic work – this should be part of your arsenal. IYKYK.
